About Departure Day

Why we built this

Departure Day started as an internal tool for a family that travels a lot, the founder's family. Multi-generational cruise trips, itineraries with a dozen legs, group sizes where a shared spreadsheet stops working somewhere around day three of planning. We needed something that could hold the whole picture: every flight, every port stop, every ground transfer, who is in which cabin, and what everyone is supposed to do on day four.

We could not find all of that in one place, so we built it.

What Departure Day is and is not

Departure Day is a trip planning and cruise research platform for people who travel seriously. It is not a booking engine. There are no affiliate links, no commissions, and no relationships with cruise lines that influence what you see. The cruise research tools show you the full market because that is the only way the data is useful.

When you are ready to book, Departure Day makes it easy to bring your travel advisor into the plan. That relationship belongs to you. We stay out of it.

The Twin Ledger connection

Departure Day is a service of Twin Ledger, a household financial and administrative platform built for families with complex financial lives. Twin Ledger subscribers have full access to Departure Day's Privé tier, and the same credentials work across both products.

The travel tools started inside Twin Ledger and grew into something that made sense as its own product. Departure Day is that product.

The Founder

Departure Day was founded by Jeffrey Payne, a technology executive with a background in SaaS platforms and payments technology. He previously co-founded Flex Rental Solutions, a rental management platform for the event industry, and BlockChyp, a payments platform built to simplify integrated payment processing for independent software vendors. Before BlockChyp, he worked on the Ocean Medallion program at Princess Cruises, an early connected guest experience platform built around wearable technology. After Stax Payments acquired BlockChyp, he built Twin Ledger as a full-featured household platform designed to provide real-time financial visibility for families. Departure Day started as a feature of Twin Ledger and eventually grew into its own product.
